Berlin-based Montamo raises €2.1million in pre-seed funding. Project A Ventures and a number of well-known angel investors lead this round.
The first career changers will be welcomed to the Munich montamo training centre at the start of next year by seasoned montamo masters and journeymen. The participants in this highly digitalized six- to eight-week course will receive both theoretical and practical instruction, qualifying them to install heat pumps.
Alexander Böhm and Ole Schaumberg, the company’s founders, set out to effectively address the three main problems of the energy transition, the shortage of qualified labour in the trades, and the integration of immigrants.
Alexander Böhm said, “Thanks to a strong focus and a high degree of digitalisation, our training courses qualify employees much faster than is possible with conventional training, without sacrificing quality, German language skills will also no longer be an issue for us. Our digital learning platform will be available to course participants in several languages.”
Project A’s Mila Cramer commented: “Germany lacks an estimated 60k workers to achieve the heat pump energy transition goals by 2030 alone, 50% of all blue-collar workers will retire in the next 10 years. To fill this gap, we need innovative solutions that increase efficiency and create additional capacity by training new workers. In Alex and Ole, we have found the perfect team with the passion and experience to achieve this goal.”
Founded in 2023, Montamo intends to solve the primary obstacle to the green energy transition—a shortage of skilled labor—in order to expedite its implementation.
The company’s goal is to train individuals from migrant backgrounds to change careers and become professional construction workers in the energy sector through a hybrid strategy that combines specialised training centres and digital solutions.
