SUMMARY
- SolarDew, a Dutch startup developing solar-powered water purification systems, has raised €800,000 in funding from Connect the Drops and Oost NL, a regional development agency in the Netherlands that participated in its second investment round.
The company aims to provide clean drinking water to one million people by 2035, addressing the growing global shortage of safe water, especially in rural and underserved regions.
SolarDew’s technology uses a simple solar-thermal process based on evaporation and condensation through a membrane to purify polluted water or seawater. Operating without electricity, chemicals, or high pressure, the system relies only on solar energy and gravity, making it low-maintenance and suitable for remote communities.
A typical installation of around 32 units can produce approximately 100 litres of clean drinking water per day, depending on sunlight conditions.

Following successful pilot projects and the production of 150 units, SolarDew has begun industrial-scale manufacturing and built a European supply chain. The company has also secured a Dutch patent, with broader international protection expected soon.
The new funding will support scaling of production and deployment of additional commercial installations. SolarDew has already launched projects in Chile and Greece and plans further deployments by 2026.
“Our market forecasts show that by 2030, more than 100 million people will be in need of an alternative source for clean drinking water,” said Alexander van der Kleij, CEO of SolarDew.
According to Van der Kleij: “Over the past year, we have built a strong foundation with our scalable technology, strong partnerships, and the first projects that demonstrate the necessity of our solution.
Our goal now is to continue to scale and create lasting impact by providing clean drinking water to communities and businesses worldwide - thereby contributing to improved living conditions and economic growth.”
About SolarDew
SolarDew, founded in 2019 develops solar-powered water purification and desalination systems that convert seawater and contaminated water into clean drinking water. Its simple, low-maintenance technology uses evaporation and condensation through a membrane, enabling rapid deployment for households and communities, especially in water-scarce or disaster-affected regions, without electricity or chemicals.
