VARM Raises €17.5 Mn in Series A Round led by ABN AMRO

VARM, a startup based in Berlin, has raised €17.5 million in a Series A funding round to expand its home insulation business across Germany and eventually into other European countries.

The funding round was led by ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund and co-led by GET Fund. Other investors, including Aurum Impact and existing backers Emerge Partners, Pale Blue Dot, Emerge VC, and noa, also participated.

VARM trains and deploys insulation specialists to help homeowners improve energy efficiency, reduce heating costs, and lower carbon emissions. The new funding will support the company's growth and help scale its insulation services to more homes across Europe.

Although insulation technology is already available, there are not enough skilled workers to install it. This shortage of qualified professionals is one of the biggest challenges preventing insulation projects from being carried out on a larger scale.

The problem exists across Europe, where many countries are working to improve building energy efficiency and meet their 2030 climate and energy goals.

“Insulating Europe’s buildings is proven, fast, cheap and unbelievable effective. The hard part is doing it at scale, building by building. That’s the company we always have been building. Now we’re building the team to match the speed for our next phase,” said Christian Gruener, CEO and co-founder in a public statement.

Founded in 2023 by Christian Gruener and Sebastian Wuerz, VARM is tackling the shortage of insulation workers with a model it calls the "Cloud Installer."

The company recruits people from other industries, such as logistics and retail, and trains them to become certified insulation specialists in just a few weeks. These workers are then deployed through VARM's regional teams, while the company handles quality checks and project management.

VARM also provides customers with fixed-price quotes before installation starts, making the process more transparent and predictable.
