Zurich-based Crosstown has raised an additional $3 million in seed funding to speed up the rollout of its H2R® Burner technology.
SUMMARY
- Zurich-based Crosstown has raised an additional $3 million in seed funding to speed up the rollout of its H2R® Burner technology.
This innovative burner allows existing gas turbines to run on 100% renewable fuels like hydrogen—helping operators reach zero-carbon performance without replacing entire systems.
The H2R® Burner is a cost-effective and quicker alternative to full turbine replacements. It enables turbine operators to upgrade their current infrastructure and meet emissions regulations more easily and affordably.

Crosstown is already working with major energy players such as Sulzer and Fortum. Just one 100MW turbine using the H2R® Burner can prevent over 300,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. With thousands of turbines still in use globally, Crosstown’s tech has huge climate potential—offering a scalable, flexible path to clean energy.
S. Manoj Harasgama, founder and Co-CEO of Crosstown, shared: We’re grateful for the visionary support of European ClimateTech investors who share our mission: eliminating CO₂ emissions from the gas turbine sector while unlocking new value for existing infrastructure.
By repurposing billions of dollars in gas infrastructure and preventing them from becoming costly stranded assets, we’re not only driving decarbonization — we’re also reinforcing Europe’s energy sovereignty, resilience and long-term competitiveness. This funding allows us to accelerate our go-to-market via our sales partnerships and expand our product portfolio to be applicable for 1000s of turbines globally.
In March 2025, Crosstown received a key patent from the European Patent Office (EPO) for its H2R® burner technology. This innovation allows gas turbines to run on any fuel mix—from 100% natural gas to 100% renewable fuels—offering a smooth transition to zero-carbon energy.
The burner not only supports full hydrogen use but also cuts harmful NOx emissions by up to 85%, no matter the fuel mix. Over time, it enables operators to fully eliminate CO₂ emissions, all with one flexible solution.
This patent strengthens Crosstown’s leadership in clean energy for gas turbines and has attracted even more industry interest.
The funding round included new backers like 2100Ventures, Climate Insiders, Unruly Capital, and SDAC, along with continued support from CiRi, Voyagers, and the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFoE).
Andrea Casasco, Founding Partner and investor at 2100Ventures, said: Crosstown has the leading technology to establish itself further as the leading option for the decarbonisation of gas turbines across all OEMs. With gigatons of CO₂ emitted annually, gas turbines belong to the biggest offenders of CO₂ emissions globally.
The 2100 team is excited to be backing this experienced team, who have defined the gas turbine landscape with dozens of patents over 3 decades and therefore is pre-destined to clean it up now.
As Europe works to move away from fossil fuels, Crosstown’s technology helps extend the life of existing gas turbines and power plants by making them future-ready for zero-carbon energy. This ensures a stable, low-emission power supply for years to come.
Crosstown’s solution supports renewables like wind and solar by offering reliable, clean baseload energy. It also prevents thousands of gas turbines from becoming stranded and costly.
With its new funding, Crosstown plans to expand its technology to support more turbine types—like those from Rolls-Royce, GE, Siemens, and ABB. The company is also forming new partnerships with service providers and equipment makers, while growing its expert team in Switzerland.
