Boldr Raises $5 Mn to Expand Smart Energy Technology Across North America

UK energy management startup Boldr has raised $5 million in a pre-Series A funding round. The company develops technology that connects energy equipment in homes and helps turn it into flexible power capacity for the electricity grid.

SUMMARY

  • Boldr raised $5M in pre-Series A funding.
  • Unconventional Ventures led the round
  • Boldr plans to grow contractor partnerships and distribution across North America.

The funding round was led by Unconventional Ventures. Other investors included Ada Ventures, Tetard Ventures, Davidovs Venture Collective, Roxbury Asset Management, Inclimo Climate Tech Fund, Prosegur, Techstars, S20 Fund and strategic investors from the North American HVAC industry.

The new funding will help Boldr expand its technology and grow its business. The latest round follows a $3.2 million seed round that the company raised last year.

"The next power plant won’t be one building. It will be millions of homes working together. But you don’t get there through a consumer app alone. You get there through the contractors who already install, service and replace the equipment that controls energy inside the home. Our job is to give them the technology to make that future possible, " said Madi Ablyazov, CEO and co-founder of Boldr.

Boldr develops smart thermostats and connected controls that can work with different heating and cooling systems. Its technology helps make home energy equipment easier to monitor and manage.

The company’s software gives contractors a clear view of the equipment they have installed. This helps them spot problems early, manage repairs and maintenance, and stay connected with customers throughout the life of the equipment.

Boldr will use the new funding to expand its technology beyond ductless HVAC systems. The company plans to develop solutions for residential and small commercial central heating and cooling systems.

The funding will also help Boldr speed up product development and build more partnerships with contractors. It plans to expand its distribution network across North America.
