Agora Labs Raises €4.3 Mn Led by P101 to Expand Privacy-Focused AI Healthcare Research Platform

Italian venture capital firm P101 SGR has led a €4.3 million funding round for Agora Labs, an Italian deep tech company. Agora Labs has developed technology that helps hospitals use clinical data for medical and scientific research while protecting patients' privacy.

SUMMARY

  • Agora Labs raised €4.3 million in a round led by P101 SGR.
  • The Mussetto family, owners of Infinite Five, also participated.
  • Uses AI to help hospitals make clinical data available for medical research while protecting patient privacy.

The funding round also included the Mussetto family, owners of Infinite Five. The holding company specialises in marketing technology, data analysis and robotics. It also supports startups and growing businesses with funding and industry expertise.

Agora Labs currently works with an international network of 50 healthcare facilities, including Harvard Medical School and San Raffaele Hospital in Milan. The company plans to double this network in the coming months, expanding its reach and helping more healthcare institutions use clinical data for research.

Agora Labs will use the new funding to strengthen its presence in Europe and the United States and enter new markets, including the Middle East and India. The investment will also support team expansion, with the company planning to hire around 20 technical and commercial professionals in the coming months.

Davide Zaccagnini, founder and CEO of Agora Labs, said: “The arrival of P101 and Infinite Five in Agora Labs addresses two specific needs: scaling our data network even faster and activating global-scale projects on it. Resources matter, but what counts most is experience, market understanding, international credibility and genuine strategic collaboration within the board. I admit I was surprised, and I am truly excited, to see all these elements come together so organically while working with the P101 and Infinite Five teams. Our ambitions, already high, have only grown.”

“Agora Labs has developed a solution that is unique in Europe, combining proprietary deep tech with vertical expertise and an international model and network,” commented Stefano Guidotti, Partner at P101. “One of our core theses in AI-enabled healthcare is that among the most promising areas, and one on which global companies can be built in Italy too, is the use of AI models to reduce the friction between how and where clinical data is generated and how it can be used for research and to make healthcare systems more efficient. We are convinced that Agora Labs will play a central role in this dynamic, in Europe and beyond.”

Agora Labs was created to solve a major problem in healthcare research. Hospitals have large amounts of clinical data that could help scientists improve disease diagnosis and develop new treatments. However, this information is often stored in different computer systems and formats, making it difficult to access and use for research.

To solve this problem, Agora Labs has developed a technology platform that allows hospitals to use their clinical data without sending it outside their facilities. Each hospital has its own computing system powered by GPUs from NVIDIA. The system uses specialised large language models (LLMs) to organise and standardise the data, then applies advanced anonymisation methods to protect patient identities. The company says these methods are designed to protect data even against future quantum computing capabilities.
