QMatter Raises $1.2M In Pre-Seed Led By 55 North

The company focuses on solving the computational challenges of quantum mechanics simulations, which are critical for fields like drug discovery and materials science but remain extremely resource-intensive.

QMatter develops quantum compression technology that reduces the complexity of large scale problems before they are processed on quantum or classical systems. This helps improve efficiency and extend the capabilities of both current and next-generation computing hardware.

Initially, the company is targeting the life sciences sector, working with pharmaceutical and biotech firms to enhance simulation accuracy and speed up R&D processes. It is also building physics-informed datasets to support advanced machine learning model training.

QMatter compresses complex quantum problems to their essential core, ensuring solutions remain both accurate and useful. By doing so we unlock greater performance from today's quantum hardware while broadening the problem landscape for future error-corrected machines, said Alexis Ralli, co-founder and CEO of QMatter.

QMatter was founded in 2024 by Dr. Alexis Ralli and Dr. Timothy Weaving, both of whom hold PhDs in quantum computing and molecular modelling from University College London.

The founding team also includes Prof. Peter Coveney (University College London) and Prof. Peter Love (Tufts University). The team brings strong expertise in quantum computing and high-performance computing, with a focus on life science applications.
