[Funding alert] Vienna-based Proofcheck Secures €500k in Pre-Seed Funding

Vienna-based Proofcheck secures €500k in pre-seed funding. The German-Swiss 5502 Fund of BackBone Ventures led this investment in its early stages.
Other participants in the round included American technologist Kyle Kosic, an early OpenAI engineer who worked on ChatGPT and recently co-founded xAI with Elon Musk; Austrian entrepreneur and business angel Gernot Singer; and the European super angel fund Angel Invest, helmed by partner Mara Larson-Richard.

With the pre-seed funding, the business will expand its capabilities to support the whole corporate content creation lifecycle, including the editing and design phases, and expedite the development of its AI-powered platform.

With Proofcheck's software, created PDFs—the standard file format for professional content—now include visually aware, "pixel-perfect" AI checking. Approximately twelve book publishers in North America and Europe currently use Proofcheck, including some of the biggest commercial publishers in Germany and the US.

Unlike other LLM startups, Proofcheck's platform combines a combination of proprietary algorithms and open-source models that have been specially trained to produce high-fidelity findings while protecting customer intellectual property, as opposed to using generic transformer models like ChatGPT.
