SUMMARY
- Netherlands-based GeniusTravel, a platform for budget travellers, has raised €2 million in funding.
The money will be used to build and launch “Genius,” an AI-powered app that helps users find and book complete travel packages.
The funding comes from anonymous investors and will first support the app’s launch in the Netherlands. The company also plans to expand to other European countries soon.
In a statement from GeniusTravel, one of the investors mentions, “AI – and generative AI in particular – has proven its value in recent years by simplifying a wide range of manual tasks. I strongly believe in the potential of applying this technology to the travel industry to better, faster, and more easily meet consumer needs. Most people book their holidays online, but many still turn to tour operators for guidance. Genius brings the best of both worlds together through smart technology.”

Entrepreneur Gennie Freen created Genius, an AI-powered travel app, to make trip planning easier. She wanted to solve the problem of comparing different travel platforms, destinations, and prices.

The app helps users put together full travel packages—like flights and hotels—based on their preferences and budget.
Travellers can communicate their plans by messaging Genius, the AI travel agent, which then curates a personalised set of travel options. “This feature makes finding the most affordable and suitable trip as easy as asking ChatGPT a question,” says Freen.
Genius uses AI to find daily travel deals for all budgets and trip types. These include short trips under €120 per person (with flights and stay), weekend getaways, last-minute departures, top destinations, and a daily top 10 deals list.
For those who like to search manually, the app offers filters for budget, destination, and travel dates. It builds full travel packages by combining flights and hotels through its partnership with Expedia.
Users get a personalised list of the best-priced options. Once a trip is picked, travellers can choose their room and flight details, then book directly through the app. More filter features, like hotel amenities, will be added soon.
After three years of development and testing, Genius is now available on the App Store and Play Store.
