Morphotonics Raises €40 Mn+ in Series B to Scale AI Glasses Manufacturing Technology

Netherlands-based deeptech company Morphotonics has raised more than €40 million in Series B funding. The company will use the new funding to expand its manufacturing technology for AI glasses, augmented reality (AR) waveguides and advanced photonic components.

SUMMARY

  • Morphotonics has raised more than €40 million in Series B funding.
  • The Netherlands-based deeptech company develops manufacturing technology for AI glasses, AR waveguides and photonic components.
  • The round included existing investors 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries and BOM, along with new investor Invest-NL.
  • Morphotonics will use the funding to scale its technology and support high-volume production.

The funding includes continued support from existing investors 3M Ventures, Innovation Industries and BOM. Invest-NL joined as a major new investor, while the European Innovation Council (EIC) Fund, Ernij Next and the European Investment Bank (EIB) also participated in the round.

"Everyone is talking about AI glasses right now. AI is moving off the screen and into the real world, into glasses, spatial systems, and a new generation of intelligent devices. But these and similar devices will not reach mass adoption unless the optical components inside them can be manufactured at consumer-electronics scale, "said Hugo da Silva, CEO of Morphotonics.

“Morphotonics is addressing a clear industrial challenge: how to manufacture increasingly complex optical components at the scale and cost required by consumer markets. The company has made significant progress in a short time, and this investment will support its move from technology development into broader industrial deployment,” said Johan Stins, Sr. Investment Manager at Invest NL.

Morphotonics develops advanced manufacturing technology that helps companies produce micro- and nanostructured optical components on a large scale.

Its technology helps manufacturers move from product development to high-volume production. It can be used for applications such as AR waveguides, advanced displays, AI glasses and photonic components.

The company is based in Veldhoven, Netherlands, and works with customers and technology partners across Europe, the United States and Asia. Morphotonics has also previously been recognized as a CES Innovation Awards Honoree.
