By the end of the decade, Mission Zero hopes to have a mass deployable DAC product that can collect 1,000 tonnes of CO2 annually and be flexibly scaled to unleash megatonne annual capacity. This money will help them get closer to that goal.

Recent IPCC studies show that in order to prevent global warming from rising above 1.5°C, humanity must remove enormous amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere while simultaneously dramatically cutting back on new emissions.

Mission Zero has quickly pioneered a novel direct air capture technology that is adaptable to any industrial use case, location, or scale since its founding in 2020. The company is already attempting to democratize access to a revolutionary new source of sustainable, circular carbon in order to break free from reliance on fossil fuels. This includes empowering multiple pathways for the removal and utilisation of carbon.

Mission Zero employs electricity and a liquid solution to absorb atmospheric CO2 in its organic form, drawing inspiration from the biological mechanisms that regulate CO2 in the human body. The capture solution is continuously renewed through hyper-efficient electrochemical separation, which concentrates CO2 as a pure gas.

The technology is affordable even at lower scales, utilizes tested parts, known supply chains, and has a modular architecture for worldwide application. It is designed for quick scaling and deployment. Because of its energy efficiency and compatibility with load-variable renewable sources, Mission Zero's technology can dynamically ramp up and down to give atmospheric CO2 on demand right at the point of application.

One of the few innovators in the direct air capture space, Mission Zero has progressed from independently supported research and development pilot plants to commercially sponsored deployments with global clients.

Mission Zero aims to pioneer carbon-negative building materials, sustainable aviation fuel, and CO₂ mineralization with three systems operational by the end of 2024. Dr Nicholas Chadwick, CEO of Mission Zero Technologies said, “We are delighted to welcome VCs and strategic investors with some of the strongest environmental credentials of any investors on the planet, Their world-leading manufacturing acumen and deep alignment with our vision will be catalytic in allowing us to scale DAC rapidly and responsibly for maximum positive climate impact.”

Christian Jolck, Co-founder and Partner at 2150 said, “Mission Zero’s novel technology unlocks mass deployable, low cost, energy efficient DAC, enabling effective carbon removal while also providing a circular CO₂ source that cities can use to make fuel, chemicals, building materials, and more. Mission Zero has gone from concept to commercial deployments in just three years and built a team with the technical talent and drive to rapidly deploy the most competitive DAC in the market. We are excited to support Mission Zero in their ambition to deliver climate impact at scale as the world needs solutions like this to meet the Paris Agreement goals,”.

About Mission Zero

Mission Zero, Carbon is being reinvented for a healthy earth. They have quickly developed adaptable Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology since 2020 to remove historical CO2 emissions from the atmosphere at any location and on any scale.

With the help of Breakthrough Energy Ventures, the XPRIZE Foundation, Stripe, and the UK government, they have quickly empowered carbon removal and utilisation routes by taking a brand-new climate technology from lab to real commercial plant in less than three years.
