Mika Games Raises $10 Mn to Support Mobile Game Studios and Expand Marketing

Mika Games, an investment company founded by Wargaming co-founder Nick Katselapov, has raised $10 million in a funding round led by Flint Capital. Several new and existing investors also took part in the round.

SUMMARY

  • Mika Games raised $10 million in a funding round led by Flint Capital.
  • The company was founded by Wargaming co-founder Nick Katselapov.
  • The funding will support game development and larger marketing campaigns to help studios attract more players and expand their reach.

Early-stage mobile game studios often find it difficult to get funding for user acquisition, which helps them attract more players. Many investors want to see a strong marketing track record before providing financial support.

This usually means game studios need several months of campaign data, previous marketing spending of $300,000 to $500,000, and proof that their marketing campaigns can deliver predictable results.

"Early marketing capital can therefore influence which games players ever get to discover. Our aim is to give new titles enough runway to reach players, "said Katselapov.

Mika Games has expanded its portfolio from three to five game studios this year. The company invests in mobile game developers and helps them grow their businesses.

One of its existing investments is Guli Games, the developer of Legendale, a 3D farming adventure game that has attracted more than 3 million players worldwide. Mika Games has also invested in Agonalea Games, whose tower defence game Punko has recorded over 500,000 downloads.

Its other investments include Bulberry Studio, which develops Wargard, a mobile strategy game that combines card-based gameplay with direct troop control in player-versus-player battles.

Mika Games has also invested in LevelApp, a developer of merge-2 games such as Merge Dale and Sea Bloom.

The new funding will support game development and larger marketing campaigns. This will help the studios test how well their games perform in the market, reach more players and grow their audiences.
