Metycle Raises €129 Mn Credit Facility to Expand Global Metals Operations

Cologne-based company Metycle has secured a €129 million ($150 million) credit facility to support its business and growth plans.

SUMMARY

  • Metycle has secured a €129 million ($150 million) credit facility from Rivonia Road Capital.
  • The Cologne-based company supplies recycled copper, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals to industrial customers.
  • Founded in 2022, Metycle was started by Rafael Suchan and Sebastian Brenner.

Metycle supplies recycled copper and aluminium to customers. The company focuses on the market for secondary metals, helping businesses source materials for reuse.

The credit facility was provided by Rivonia Road Capital, a California-based private capital firm that specialises in asset-backed lending.

“Our opportunity is to make secondary supply behave more like an industrial raw material: specified, traceable, and reliably delivered. This facility gives us the capacity to finance substantially more material through that system and serve customers at a much greater scale,” said Suchan, co-founder and CEO, Metycle.

Daniel Zinn, co-founder and Managing Partner of Rivonia Road Capital, said, “We are proud to support Metycle’s next phase of growth. The company has built a differentiated platform that brings greater transparency, reliability and efficiency to the global recycled metals market, while helping meet growing demand for sustainable raw materials.

“We have been particularly impressed by the management team’s deep industry expertise, disciplined execution and clear vision for scaling the business.

Metycle was founded in 2022 by Rafael Suchan and Sebastian Brenner. The company buys, processes and supplies recycled copper, aluminium and other non-ferrous metals to industrial customers around the world.

Metycle says it traded more than €103 million ($120 million) worth of recycled metals over the past 12 months. This represents 150% growth compared with the previous year. The company currently has a team working across 15 countries.

Metycle operates through three main areas. Its global trading business manages sourcing, contracts and risk. Its SmartSorting Hubs use AI-powered sorting, mechanical separation and laser technology to process mixed scrap into materials that meet customer requirements. Its TrustTrack system records information about the material’s origin, quality, processing and transportation for each batch.

Metycle believes the main challenge in the recycled metals market is not demand, but having a reliable and predictable supply. Copper and aluminium are important for power grids, electrification, data centres and manufacturing. The company believes a steady supply of recycled metals can help meet demand while new mines take years to develop.
