Icelandic AI Startup 50skills Raises $6 Mn to Automate HR Workflows

The funding round was co-led by Frumtak Ventures, Swiss Post Ventures, Avant and US-based family office DRD Investments.

50skills is building what it calls an AI operating system for people workflows. Its platform helps HR teams manage recurring tasks by combining automated workflows and AI agents in one system.

The platform also connects these HR processes with the other software and tools that organisations already use, helping teams manage their people-related work more efficiently.

Kristjan Freyr Kristjansson, co-founder and CEO of 50skills, said, "AI is changing how organisations create value, with the company focused on making the technology practical for teams responsible for managing people. We are building the operating system for people workflows, where HR teams design the experience they want for their employees and the platform runs it. The hard part is the balance: deterministic workflows where a process has to run the same way every time, probabilistic agents where a step needs interpretation, and human oversight, governance and security throughout. For HR and people operators, that balance is not optional, it is the job. That is what we build, and this round lets us bring it to many more organisations."

50skills will use the new funding to grow its sales, marketing and community teams. This will help the company reach more customers and expand its presence in the market.

The company will also continue investing in its platform, including its AI agents that are designed to work alongside HR teams and help them manage people-related tasks.

Founded in Iceland, 50skills works with several major companies and brands, including Icelandair, Eimskip, Blue Lagoon, Domino’s and Securitas. Its customers also include public-sector organisations such as the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the City of Reykjavík.

The company is also growing its customer base outside Iceland, with a focus on expanding across the Nordic countries and the UK.
