Ineffable Intelligence Raises $1.1B Seed At $5.1B Valuation

The round was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Lightspeed Venture Partners, with participation from NVIDIA, DST Global, Index Ventures, Google, Flying Fish Ventures, EQT Ventures, Evantic Capital, Wellcome Trust, BOND Capital, British Business Bank and the UK Sovereign AI Fund, alongside several strategic angel investors.

"We believe in ​this nation's entrepreneurs and innovators and we ​are backing ⁠them to seize the benefits of AI for the UK," technology minister Liz Kendall said in the government's ⁠statement. "This ​investment in Ineffable will support a ​company at the very frontier of AI, with the potential to ​transform entire sectors."

Founded in 2026 Ineffable Intelligence is building a new class of AI systems called “superlearners,” designed to acquire knowledge through experience using reinforcement learning rather than relying solely on human-generated data.

The company is led by David Silver, a professor at University College London and former Head of Reinforcement Learning at Google DeepMind. His work contributed to breakthroughs like AlphaGo, AlphaZero, AlphaStar, and AlphaFold. Notably, AlphaGo defeated world champion Lee Sedol in 2016 marking a major milestone in AI.

Ineffable focuses on a method called reinforcement learning, where AI learns by interacting with its environment, trying different actions, getting feedback, and improving over time.

This approach aims to go beyond traditional AI models that rely heavily on existing data. The company is supported by the UK Sovereign AI Fund and the British Business Bank as part of the UK government’s efforts to boost local AI innovation and build strong domestic capabilities.
