Aug 20, 2026 | By Oliver Bennett

UK-based startup EcoNomad Solutions has received £230,000 in funding from the British Design Fund (BDF). The funding will help the company support small livestock farms in reducing methane emissions and lowering energy and fertiliser costs.
SUMMARY
- EcoNomad Solutions has secured £230,000 from the British Design Fund as part of a wider £400,000 funding round.
- The UK startup helps small livestock farms reduce methane emissions and lower energy and fertiliser costs.
- EcoNomad Solutions will first expand across the UK, before exploring markets in Europe and other emerging regions.
EcoNomad Solutions also helps farms turn organic waste into renewable energy. The investment is part of a larger £400,000 funding round, which includes an Innovate UK Investor Partnership grant and additional funding from existing investor Beeches Group.
Small and medium-sized livestock farms in the UK and Europe are facing several challenges. Energy and fertiliser prices are rising, waste management rules are becoming stricter, and farmers are under increasing pressure to reduce methane emissions.
Agriculture is one of the major sources of human-caused methane emissions worldwide, making it important for farms to find more sustainable ways to manage waste.

Most anaerobic digestion systems currently available are designed for large farms. For smaller farms, these systems can be too expensive, complicated, or too large.
EcoNomad Solutions aims to address this gap by providing solutions that are better suited to the needs and size of small and medium-sized livestock farms.
Dr Ilan Adler, Founder & CEO of EcoNomad Solutions, said: “Small farms are under increasing pressure, yet they’re often excluded from the renewable energy solutions available to larger operators. Our mission is to change that. The BioNomad is designed to make waste‑to‑energy accessible, affordable and practical for even the smallest farms, helping them reduce emissions, lower costs and build resilience. The support from BDF, Innovate UK and our existing investors enables us to progress product development and scale our operations across the UK and Europe.”
Damon Bonser, CEO of the British Design Fund, said: “EcoNomad Solutions is addressing a major environmental and economic challenge with a solution that is both innovative and highly scalable. Their approach to decentralised anaerobic digestion has the potential to deliver meaningful impact for small farms globally.”
Over the next few years, EcoNomad Solutions plans to make its BioNomad® system fully automated and easy to install and use. The goal is to create a simple, plug-and-play solution that requires less work from farmers.
The company will continue improving its product while increasing commercial deployment across the UK. It plans to make the system available to more small and medium-sized farms.
After growing in the UK, EcoNomad Solutions plans to explore expansion into Europe and other emerging markets. Its long-term goal is to make on-farm waste-to-energy technology more affordable and accessible to small farms.
