[Funding alert] Baden-based Crosstown H2R Secures over €2 Million in Funding
Mar 19, 2024 | By Team SR
Baden-based climate tech startup Crosstown H2R secures over €2 million in funding. The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and additional investors enabling it to continue developing its proprietary technology.
Additionally, Crosstown H2R established alliances with major international firms Sulzer and Fortum, opening the door for gas power plants to transition for the first time to zero-carbon energy production.
With the goal of accelerating the shift to sustainable energy, Crosstown is a trailblazing Swiss technology company that offers both breakthrough destination technologies and transitional hybrid technologies.
The technology developed by Crosstown will be essential in removing CO2 emissions from both new and old gas turbines in Europe, allowing them to have longer lifespans and dependable, zero- or low-carbon operation for many years. In this approach, Europe can lessen the effects of economic and political turmoil elsewhere in the world while also further severing its reliance on fossil fuels.

With the help of Crosstown's technology, new turbines can run carbon-free from the offset while the current infrastructure and turbines can be repurposed and made future-proof. In addition to developing the first zero-carbon burner for the gas turbine industry that complies with nitrogen oxide (NOx), the company has also created the technology for carbon-free turbines in power generation.
By causing photochemical reactions in the atmosphere that result in the tropospheric greenhouse gas "ozone," NOx functions as an indirect greenhouse gas. Based on years of specialized low emission and zero-carbon research as well as the team's decades of experience, Crosstown H2R has developed and validated its technology.

S. Manoj Harasgama, founder and co-CEO of Crosstown said, “I strongly believe that we will only truly solve the global climate crisis by building new hardware approaches to reduce CO2 and other greenhouse gases, We’re thrilled to join forces with such renowned clients and go-to-market partners to get this product to market faster and support our mission of creating a sustainable world today.”
With its ultra low NOx capacity, the Crosstown Burner (H2R®) decarbonizes gas turbines while guaranteeing worldwide emissions compliance. Most gas turbines and gas power plants will not be able to comply with the impending NOx standards in Europe and the US starting in 2025, necessitating a switch to new technologies.
Based on years of focused zero-carbon research and the team's decades of experience, Crosstown has developed independently tested and validated technology. As part of the partnerships, Crosstown will install its most recent generation of burners—which passed TRL7 testing—into numerous Sulzer and Fortum turbines starting in 2024.
