SUMMARY
- Tyrol-based energy startup REPS has raised $23.6 million in equity funding to scale its Road Energy Production System a patented “road power plant” that generates electricity from vehicle traffic using existing road infrastructure without disrupting movement.
The system captures wasted kinetic energy from trucks and cars typically lost through motion, pressure, and vibration especially at high-traffic points like entrances, exits, curves, slopes and loading zones where vehicles slow down or brake.
REPS aims to convert this continuously available mechanical energy into clean electricity at scale, targeting ports, logistics hubs, cities and industrial sites to cut energy costs and improve sustainability. Unlike solar or wind, the technology works independently of weather and time of day.
The company claims its converter is up to 254 times more efficient than current alternatives and is designed for long-term durability under heavy traffic.

Its first commercial deployment at the Port of Hamburg has already processed over 115,000 trucks and generated 6,700 kWh since November 2025, attracting strong international interest from over 90 organisations across multiple regions.
“Roads are everywhere. Traffic is everywhere. What was previously wasted energy can now be transformed into clean electricity through REPS,” said Alfons Huber Founder and CEO of REPS.
About REPS
REPS GmbH, founded in 2023, develops the Road Energy Production System that turns roads into clean power plants. Its patented technology captures energy from moving vehicles and converts it into electricity for on-site use or the grid. By using existing road surfaces, REPS supports scalable, land-efficient renewable energy generation.
