SUMMARY

  • Amsterdam-based healthtech startup Clear.bio, specializing in personalized diabetes care, has raised €1.7M in a new funding round.

Investors include Horizon Flevoland, Future Food Fund, Invest International’s Dutch Trade & Investment Fund, and several business angels.

The funds will help expand Clear.bio’s digital diabetes remission program in the Netherlands and secure insurance reimbursement in France and Germany.

“This investment allows us to empower more individuals to take charge of their health and expand our proven solution internationally,” says founder Piet Hein van Dam (PhD). “There are 70 million patients in Europe, all of whom deserve a chance to get rid of this disease without medication.”

The announcement follows Clear.bio’s 2022 funding from Amsterdam’s Achmea Innovation Fund. In June 2025, the company received Class I medical device certification under European MDR regulations, confirming compliance with Europe’s highest medical standards. With type 2 diabetes on the rise, current treatments are costly and manage rather than cure the disease.

Founded in 2019 by Madelon Bracke and Piet Hein van Dam, Clear.bio offers a digital self-help tool that creates fully personalized diets and supports users in following them daily.

Working with healthcare professionals, insurers, investors and academic institutions, Clear.bio aims to make personalized care widely accessible.

The app recently introduced Smart Swap and Smart Signal, delivering real-time, individualized advice based on each user’s glucose data. Previously manual, dietary guidance is now automated, providing tailored recommendations at scale.

Smart Swap provides actionable tips such as “Swap mashed potatoes for mashed celeriac in this meal,” or “This fruit portion contains 25 grams of carbohydrates – try to stay under 15 grams.”

Meanwhile, Smart Signal sends real-time alerts when unusual glucose fluctuations occur — “Your blood sugar is rising quickly – consider going for a walk,” or “Caution: possible hypo.”
