Agritech Startup Raises €9.7 Mn in Seed Round led by LIFTT

Belgian agritech startup Rainbow Crops has raised €9.7 million in an oversubscribed seed funding round to support its growth and development.

The funding round was led by Italian venture capital firm LIFTT and its investment vehicle, LIFTT EuroInvest. Existing investors AIF (Agri Investment Fund), PINC, and VIB also participated, while new investors Corteva Catalyst and Maia Ventures joined the round.

Rainbow Crops plans to use the new funding to further improve its crop engineering platform and expand its technology to support a wider range of crop varieties.

The company will also invest in expanding its scientific and technical teams. The funding will help accelerate the development of innovative agricultural solutions designed to help farmers improve crop performance and resilience.

“This investment allows us to accelerate the transition from early validation to systematic deployment of our platform,” said Giacomo Bastianelli, Co-Founder and CEO, Rainbow Crops. “Our goal is to accelerate complex trait engineering and make it accessible to partners globally.”

Founded in 2025 by Giacomo Bastianelli, Rainbow Crops is an agricultural technology startup focused on developing crop varieties that can better withstand climate challenges such as drought, heat, and changing weather conditions.

The company uses its own Trait Foundry platform, which combines advanced technologies like AI, genome editing, precision breeding, and automated plant analysis. This helps Rainbow Crops develop improved crops with desirable traits more quickly and efficiently.
