- Water Kinetics an exciting and innovative pipework manufacturing company secures £150K in funding.
- Water Kinetics specialises in bringing cutting-edge change to the plumbing industry by applying science and innovative engineering solutions to the all-important element of water delivery.
Water Kinetics, a plumbing startup secures £150K investment from the British Design Fund for their ground-breaking 'Eco-Duo' pipe-within-a-pipe water recirculation system. This system can provide safe pathogen levels in drinking water systems while assisting in the reduction of carbon emissions and energy use.
Maxwell Bridges, co-founder and inventor, got the idea for the invention while watching a wildlife show about penguins. Recirculatory blood arteries aid penguins in regulating their body temperature and preventing their feet from adhering to the ice, as the episode demonstrated.
Throughout his career, Maxwell designed and installed hot and cold water systems, and during that time, he identified a way to address a number of issues with conventional water systems, most notably heat loss. He went on to develop the Eco-Duo piping system, which is exclusive to Water Kinetic.

Because of Eco-Duo's superior temperature retention, an independent research by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) comparing it to a conventional water recirculation system discovered that Eco-Duo might save energy expenses by as much as 50%.
One-pipe systems result in cost savings by reducing the amount of pipe insulation and fittings needed by 50%, decreasing labour expenses, and increasing the amount of usable space in a structure. Additionally, the cost of the pipes itself is typically 40% cheaper than that of conventional pipework systems.
Water Kinetic co-founder and managing director Jonathan Waggott explained: “We’re delighted to have secured this investment from the British Design Fund. It will help us expand our reach, introduce new machinery, and aid further product development. As well as supporting the move to net zero by lowering emissions and energy use, the Eco-Duo brings the circulating water right up to the point of use, eliminating the possibility of dead legs in the system, resolving one of the leading causes of water-borne pathogens within potable water systems today: stagnant water. This benefit, added to the temperature stability, reduces the risk of developing pathogens like Legionella within the water.”
The Eco-Duo single pipe recirculation system from Water Kinetics was created to help maintain temperatures within generally recognised acceptable ranges, thereby assisting in the reduction of pathogens in water.
Damon Bonser, CEO of the British Design Fund, said: “The experienced team at Water Kinetics really impressed the investment committee with their innovative ‘green’ pipework system, which has environmental, cost, and health benefits. The concept has already been proven through a BRE trial, and many successful installations have already been completed. There is fantastic potential for the company to quickly scale, and we look forward to supporting the team on their growth journey.”
The British Design Fund supports entrepreneurs who are ready to grow and create successful, market-leading product startups. Apart from providing financial resources, BDF offers professional guidance to assist these businesses in expediting their expansion strategies.
