French EV Startup Voltaback Secures €2.8 Mn

Voltaback, a French startup founded by Arnaud Tran and Adrien Guenard, has secured €2.8 million in funding from European investment fund Serena and several business angels. The investors include Aurélien de Meaux, co-founder of Electra, and Maxime Brousse, a Sequoia Scout.

SUMMARY

  • Voltaback raised €2.8 million from Serena and several business angels.
  • Backers include Aurélien de Meaux, co-founder of Electra, and Maxime Brousse, a Sequoia Scout.
  • The new funding will support the company’s growth and expansion of its fleet management platform.

The company provides a platform that helps businesses manage reimbursements for employees who charge electric vehicles at home, without needing to install any equipment. Voltaback’s platform has now expanded into a broader fleet management and employee mobility tool. Within 12 months, it has been adopted by 20% of CAC 40 companies, including Veolia and Equans.

“If employees aren't reimbursed by their employer for charging at home, they lose out on €600 a year, which pushes them toward public charging stations. For the company, those same charges then cost up to €2,000 a year.” Arnaud Tran, co-founder of Voltaback

“We looked at the different approaches on the market. Voltaback was the solution able to meet our scaling challenges without forcing us to deploy and manage complex connected equipment at each employee's home.” Arnaud Willing-Salleron, Director of Vehicle Fleet & Mobility Solutions, Veolia

“Voltaback has developed a highly effective solution for fleets. It is one of the most advanced teams in the mobility software sector, with an excellent product and a clear vision of the market. Voltaback, together with Electra's eMSP offering, will give us an integrated solution for businesses.” Aurélien de Meaux, co-founder of Electra and investor in Voltaback.

VoltaBack: reimburse home EV charging for company fleets

Voltaback was founded by Arnaud Tran, who studied at Polytechnique and Stanford, Adrien Guenard, a CentraleSupélec and MIT graduate, and Gautier Artru, the company’s former founder and CPO. The French startup provides fleet management software that uses connected vehicle data and does not require any additional hardware or equipment.

Voltaback first gained attention for helping companies reimburse employees for charging electric vehicles at home. Its technology can track and calculate the actual cost of each charging session, whether the employee lives in a house or an apartment building. The platform then creates a compliant receipt using a method validated by Bureau Veritas, covered by a URSSAF ruling, and protected by a patent.
