The company believes this new solution could go beyond traditional uses and impact industries like electric aviation, electric vehicles, and sustainable energy storage.
Using sulfur offers many benefits, including being widely available, sustainable, and cost-effective, unlike materials like nickel and cobalt used in traditional batteries.
The Theion crystal battery is designed to be efficient and sustainable. It can store three times more energy, aiming for 1,000 Wh/kg, and charges in just minutes thanks to its fast-charging feature.
It is also environmentally friendly, with no cobalt, nickel, or harmful solvents, and is made without harmful mining practices. The material costs are low, as sulfur makes up just 1% of NMC811, and it uses only one-third of the energy needed for traditional battery production.
About Theion GmbH
Based in Berlin, Germany, Theion develops sulfur crystal batteries for both mobile and stationary uses. By using sulfur Theion aims to store up to three times more energy than current batteries. This could allow electric cars to travel over 1,000 km and make electric flights more affordable.
