Sprout Social Acquires Dublin-Based NewsWhip

Sprout Social, a US company that offers cloud-based tools for managing social media, has acquired NewsWhip, an AI-powered media intelligence company based in Dublin.

The deal is worth €48.1 million in cash, with an additional €8.7 million possible if performance targets are met over the next two years. The acquisition was finalized on July 30, 2025, and was funded using Sprout's own cash and credit.

NewsWhip, founded in 2011, helps identify the stories that matter most by analyzing social engagement data. Its real-time monitoring and AI agents track tens of millions of stories and over 500 million engagement signals daily, enabling brands and publishers to spot rising trends before they go viral.

Sprout Social, founded in 2010 and based in Chicago, offers powerful social media management and analytics tools. Serving around 30,000 brands, Sprout provides publishing, engagement, customer care, influencer marketing, advocacy, and AI-driven business insights.

This acquisition will strengthen Sprout Social’s presence in the predictive intelligence space helping brands and publishers stay ahead in the fast-moving digital media world with greater insight and agility.

The NewsWhip team will join Sprout Social, bringing their expertise to enhance both platforms. NewsWhip Co-founder and CEO Paul Quigley will become General Manager of Sprout’s Listening division, leading both NewsWhip and Sprout’s Listening products.
