SUMMARY

  • Paris-based startup Poppins has raised €5 million to expand its digital therapy for children with dyslexia, bringing its total funding to €20 million.

In France, around 1.3 million children have dyslexia, but there are only 25,000 speech therapists. This leads to long wait times—12 to 24 months—and serious academic and emotional challenges. Improving early access to care has become a major public health goal supported by the government.

Founded in 2018 by François Vonthron and Antoine Yuen, Poppins started at École Polytechnique and focuses on creating medical tools to help with neurodevelopmental disorders, especially dyslexia, which makes up 80% of learning difficulties.

Poppins developed a video game-style app that children can use at home to support their speech therapy. It doesn’t replace therapists but helps kids practice more often and improve faster.

The app was created with help from top researchers and doctors, including Professor Michel Habib and Professor David Cohen, as well as patient groups like the French Dyslexia Federation.

Poppins has been clinically tested, including a large trial with over 6,000 families, and shows clear benefits in helping kids get more frequent, effective care at home.

According to François Vonthron, CEO and co-founder of Poppins, the company is now ready for integration into care pathways:

“The results of our work must now benefit as many people as possible in order to reduce the loss of opportunity caused by difficulties accessing care and increase care capacity for children with dyslexia."

Eric Gossart, Partner at Serena shared:

“Dys disorders affect 8 per cent of our youth. The consequences on academic success, mental health, and professional integration underscore the public health imperative to improve care pathways to guarantee each child early and intensive support, including in areas most under pressure due to a lack of speech therapists.

Racine2 is proud to support a rigorous and humble team in its mission of strong societal impact.”
