SUMMARY

  • Women’s health startup Solence has secured €1.6 million in seed funding to support women living with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).

PCOS is a hormonal disorder linked to the ovaries and central nervous system. It causes high testosterone levels, irregular periods, infertility, and metabolic issues.

Globally, around 20% of women are affected by PCOS, yet 85% don’t receive adequate care.

In Europe, access to treatment remains a major challenge. High costs—sometimes exceeding €3,500—make care unaffordable for many. Adding to the problem, online influencers have been found promoting fake PCOS cures, exploiting vulnerable young women.

Solence was founded in 2022 by Clara Stephenson with a clear mission—to provide personalised, patient-first care for women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), the most common hormonal condition affecting women.

The company is reimagining PCOS treatment through a digital-first approach that combines lifestyle changes with AI-powered solutions to reduce the burden of chronic illness and improve women’s long-term health. Solence’s care model is designed to reflect the wide variety of PCOS symptoms experienced by different individuals, offering customised support based on data insights.

Their first product is a mobile app that helps women manage PCOS symptoms beyond just taking medication. The app includes a 12-week program backed by peer-reviewed research and provides interactive lessons that blend medical knowledge with behavior change science.

It also tracks symptoms through monthly assessment scores, helping users identify triggers and receive personalised guidance on how to manage them.

Clara's journey with PCOS deeply shaped Solence’s creation. Despite showing classic symptoms she remained undiagnosed for nearly a decade—until she sought answers after facing fertility struggles. During the COVID pandemic, Clara launched a blog called Les Natives to share her experience.

The blog quickly gained traction, drawing over 135,000 readers and building a community of more than 8,000 followers. Encouraged by the response she went on to launch Solence turning her personal health battle into a platform for change.

Stephenson said: "Ultimately, our vision is to leverage data and environmental factors to better address chronic hormonal conditions among women, with a focus on prevention and improving their healthy life expectancy. This first round is a step towards realising this vision".

The funding round saw participation from Impact Shakers Ventures and several angel investors, including Céline Lazorthes (founder of Leetchi, Mangopay, and Resilience), former JP Morgan executive Berthe Latreille, Systemanova VC founder Stéphane Mardel, and BPI France.

Solence’s scientific committee features Professor Michel Pugeat, who has been treating and researching PCOS since 2003, along with neuroscience expert Dr. Nour Mimouni. Professor Pugeat shared his perspective on the condition.

"The general public needs information on PCOS, whose multitude of clinical expressions and the complexity of the causes, intertwined with the metabolic state, justify management by all health professionals, but also the search for new innovative and essential therapeutic approaches, such as that of Solence."

Yonca Breackman, Founding Partner, Impact Shakers Ventures, says: "We backed Clara and Solence not only because PCOS is a condition that affects 1 in 7 women and can have serious consequences for women's health and wellbeing, but also because Clara brings a unique perspective, experience and network to solving this challenge and scaling a solution that has the potential to reach hundreds of millions of women to improve their quality of life."
