SUMMARY
- Copenhagen-based PhaseTree has raised €3 million from Heartcore Capital to revolutionize material discovery for industries worldwide using a unique physics-first, AI-driven approach.
- PhaseTree was founded in 2021 as a startup from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) by Amit Luthra, Jin Chang, and Jenna Kang.
Amit Luthra, CEO of PhaseTree said, “Our technology gives companies a smarter way to develop sustainable materials without years of trial and error. By combining AI with fundamental science and automation, we help industries find the right materials faster, reducing costs and making green innovation more accessible,”.
The company is currently working with battery, automobile, and steel manufacturers. With China controlling most of the rare earth supply and limiting exports, industries worldwide face risks of shortages, higher costs, and environmental issues, making alternative materials more important than ever.
Developing new materials for batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines usually takes up to 20 years due to slow trial-and-error testing. PhaseTree aims to solve this by using a platform that combines simulations, lab automation, and AI to reduce this process to just two years.

Instead of relying on AI guesses, It uses proven scientific methods and improves them with AI to make more accurate predictions. This helps researchers predict real-world performance before lab testing.
PhaseTree focuses on discovering new chemical combinations and better ways to create them, developing greener, more efficient, and durable materials while reducing waste and dependence on scarce resources like fossil fuels and rare earth metals.
Jin Hyun Chang, CTO and Co-founder of PhaseTree said, “This investment allows us to advance our technology, grow our research team, and bring sustainable materials to market faster, helping industries adopt sustainable materials faster than ever before,”.
Christian Lindegaard Jepsen, Partner at Heartcore Capital said, “Materials play a crucial role in developing clean energy and sustainable technologies. PhaseTree makes it easier and faster to find better alternatives that can help reduce environmental impact and improve efficiency,”
The funds will help grow the team, improve research, and make material development faster and easier for industries like energy, transportation, construction, electronics, and healthcare, helping speed up the shift to greener technologies.
