  • UK-based maritime defence startup Online Oceans has raised £4 million in funding to scale its autonomous surface vessels and fleet software platform.

The round was led by Seraphim Space, with participation from investors including Peter Rive, Frank Thieser, Florian Seibel, and Koro Capital.

Online Oceans was founded in 2025 by George Morton and Alistair Douglas. The company builds smart maritime systems to help monitor the ocean continuously.

Its platform includes Scout, a small solar-powered autonomous boat, and Tether, a cloud-based control system. Together, they allow teams to manage missions in real time, coordinate fleets, and track data easily.

The company is focused on applications such as anti-submarine warfare, subsea infrastructure protection, border security and counter-narcotics operations. Its technology supports scalable, connected autonomous fleets as an alternative to traditional, crewed naval vessels and limited autonomous deployments.

The new funding will be used to scale manufacturing, support deployments and expand Online Oceans’ capacity to meet rising demand across both defence and commercial sectors. While headquartered in Europe, the company is positioning itself to serve global needs for continuous maritime monitoring and infrastructure protection.

Commenting on the need for more cost-effective maritime monitoring, George Morton, founder and CEO of Online Oceans, said: We built Online Oceans to provide a more practical and scalable way for governments and operators to monitor critical waters, protect infrastructure, and maintain awareness over extended periods.
