Nanolope Raises €800K to Develop Thermal Energy Storage for Buildings

Nanolope, a DeepTech startup based in Berlin, has raised €800,000 in a pre-Seed funding round.

The company is developing new materials that can store thermal energy in a small space. Its technology is designed for use in buildings and energy systems.

The funding round was supported by IBB Ventures through its pre-Seed Fund B# (“be sharp”).

Several experienced business angels and industry experts from the energy, real estate, and materials technology sectors also invested in the round.

“The transition to sustainable heating will be decided in existing buildings. Many properties need solutions that can be retrofitted quickly and economically, without major structural interventions. That is exactly what we are developing with our thermal storage panels,” said Dr. Felix Marske, CEO and co-founder of Nanolope.

Sabine Wolff, Principal at IBB Ventures, on Nanolope, said, “The team convinced us with its expertise, experience, and ambition to set new standards in the construction industry with its patented energy storage materials in the face of climate change.”

Founded in 2025 by Dr. Marske, Eric Matthes, and Dominik L. Schreiber, Nanolope has developed a patent-protected technology for storing thermal energy in existing buildings.

The company wants to help make buildings more energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective. Its technology focuses on passive systems that can store heat and cold for residential and commercial buildings.

Nanolope says the building sector is one of Europe’s biggest energy users. Many older and commercial buildings have outdated heating systems and poor insulation, which can result in high energy costs and carbon emissions.

Buildings also face stricter energy-efficiency requirements. However, fully renovating older properties can be expensive, time-consuming, and difficult for many property owners to afford.
