The goal is to give wearers sharper vision and a wider field of view naturally, and without needing to switch lenses.
The company was founded by a team of serial entrepreneurs, including Eiden and Jussi Havu (COO), who have now worked together on three ventures over the past decade.
IXI is shaking up the $200 billion global eyewear market by creating an entirely new kind of smart glasses. Their eyewear uses real-time, ultra-low-power eye tracking and advanced lens technology that adjusts automatically to help you see clearly.
IXI was founded in 2021 by Niko Eiden (CEO) and Ville Miettinen (Chief Algorithm Officer). Before IXI, they co-founded Varjo, a well-known mixed reality company that built high-tech VR products used by astronauts, pilots, and nuclear power plant operators.
As the global population gets older, more people are developing presbyopia—a condition that makes it hard to see up close. Millions are stuck using traditional progressive lenses, which often cause narrow vision, blurry sides (peripheral distortion), and difficulty seeing at different distances.
According to Eiden, the eyewear industry hasn’t changed much in decades—and IXI is here to bring in the technology it’s been missing.
"It's incredible that we haven't seen more technological leaps, leaving millions of people forced to compromise on how they see the world. The time for change is now"
Eiden detailed:
"Our aim is that you see everything clearly, with a wider field of view for reading. And when you look into the distance, you have your full field of vision back — no 'reading area' blocking your far view.
It's almost like going back to when you were 20 or 30 years old and had single-vision glasses."
It’s a very appealing solution, especially for people who use progressive lenses or reading glasses and are tired of constantly putting them on and taking them off.
