Aachen-based startup IonKraft has raised €3.5 million in funding, co-led by M Ventures and TechVision Fund, with High-Tech-Gründerfonds also participating. The funds will help IonKraft enter the market and scale production.

IonKraft, a spin-off from RWTH Aachen University, creates plasma-based coatings that can replace non-recyclable packaging barriers. In 2023, it received support from the European EIC Accelerator program, allowing it to develop an industrial machine for coating. The first system is set to be deployed for customers by the end of the year.

With the new funds, it plans to expand its team and increase production capacity.
Owen Lozman, Managing Director of M Ventures, shared: “IonKraft’s innovative coating is appealing for a variety of reasons: it provides an alternative to PFAS, which is being regulated, glass, which is prone to breakage or requires secondary packaging, and has the potential to maximize recycled content in future plastic packaging solutions.”
