Hypersonica Raises €100Mn Series B

British-German defence company Hypersonica has raised €100 million in a Series B funding round. The company develops advanced hypersonic missile systems designed for Europe and its allied countries.

SUMMARY

  • British-German defence startup Hypersonica has raised €100 million in a Series B funding round.
  • The round was co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst, with participation from existing investors Plural and 201 Ventures.
  • Founded in 2023, the company is developing advanced hypersonic strike systems for Europe and its allies.

The funding round was co-led by Lightspeed and General Catalyst, with continued support from existing investors Plural and 201 Ventures.

“The debate about whether Europe needs hypersonic deep-strike capability is over. Governments have recognised the requirement and begun funding programmes. The challenge now is delivery. Europe needs credible hypersonic long-range capability, and more value for every pound and euro it spends,” said Dr Kerth and Dr Ewenz, co-founders of Hypersonica.

“Hypersonica is redefining how advanced defence capability gets built. The team pairs deep technical expertise with exceptional speed of execution, and the strength of our support reflects our confidence in both the technology and their ability to deliver,” said Alexander Schmitt, Partner at Lightspeed.

Hypersonica: European hypersonic deep strike capability, prototype tested at Mach 6+ over 300 km+.

Founded in 2023, Hypersonica is a British-German defence company with its main office in Munich and a wholly owned subsidiary in London. Its engineering teams work across both locations.

The company is developing advanced hypersonic strike systems for Europe. It aims to build high-speed defence technology entirely within Europe, without relying on technology restricted by US export rules (ITAR).

Hypersonica was founded by Dr. Philipp Kerth and Dr. Marc Ewenz. The company focuses on solving the technical challenges of hypersonic flight, where aircraft and missiles travel at speeds above Mach 5.

At these high speeds, extreme heat can damage conventional aerospace materials and equipment. Hypersonica addresses this challenge by developing advanced materials, control systems and avionics that help its systems fly safely and change direction during flight.

The new funding will help the company speed up the development of its hypersonic systems, carry out more tests and expand its operations across Europe. It also plans to support manufacturing growth and create hundreds of skilled engineering and manufacturing jobs in the UK and Germany.
