SUMMARY
- Hexis, an AI-powered Sports Nutrition App, secures $2million pre-seed funding.
- This round was co-led by athlete-driven venture firm Apex Capital and by Rasmus Ankersen’s Sport Republic.
Hexis CEO David Dunne said “Their investment is a major vote of confidence in our mission, adding that the funding will help grow their technology and marketing."
Dopamine Sports Ventures and a number of athletes, including Olympic medalists and stage winners of the Tour de France like Bob Jungels, were also present in the round. Stephen Moon, CEO of Science in Sport, has joined the board, while James Morton, a well-known sports nutritionist who has held important positions at INEOS, Team Sky, and Liverpool, is joining Hexis as an adviser.
Hexis was created by sports nutritionists Dunne and Sam Impey, who was most recently the lead nutritionist for British Cycling. The company's strategies are based on those used by professional riders, many of whom have invested in the business and are now implementing it for their teams ahead of the Tour de France.

According to Dunne, several of the riders first went to individual counselling before learning that the company was developing technology to provide that service. "They invested in the technology while they were actually looking for one-on-one support."
With the use of Premier League and Championship football teams as well as Premiership Rugby clubs, Hexis is now being more widely used in team sports. At least two NBA teams are on the verge of signing with Hexis, and Sport Republic's funding will enable the platform to be implemented throughout its football clubs, Southampton FC, Valenciennes FC, and Göztepe SK.
Ankersen, the CEO of Sport Republic, is credited for developing data-driven tactics and guiding FC Midtjylland to three Danish League championships and Brentford FC to its first Premier League promotion in 74 years.
Ankersen wrote in an email , “Hexis’ athlete management platform allows our football club nutritionists to become more efficient, focusing less on administration and instead spend more time on strategic and value-added tasks for players’ nutrition, The AI-fueled Hexis nutrition engine, creating personalized meal plans based on actual individual consumption, provides the players with real-time and more accurate fuel recommendations and insights.”
