Golbriak Space Secures €4 Mn

Estonian space technology company Golbriak Space has raised €4 million in new funding. The company will use the money to speed up the development and production of its technology.

SUMMARY

  • Golbriak Space, an Estonian space technology startup, has raised €4 million in Seed funding.
  • The round was co-led by Join Capital and PhotonVentures, with participation from Takeoff.
  • The company will use the funding to increase production and scale its optical communication technology.

The funding will help Golbriak Space increase its production capacity as more customers prepare to use its optical terminals on a larger scale.

The Seed funding round was co-led by Join Capital and PhotonVentures. Takeoff, an aerospace and advanced hardware accelerator managed by Plug and Play, also participated in the round.

“Closing this round marks a turning point for Golbriak,” said Nicola Garzaniti, founder and CEO of Golbriak Space. “Years of research, specialised engineering and customer validation have gone into solving the practical challenges that determine whether laser communications can operate reliably at scale. We have addressed the key challenges required for large-scale deployment of optical communications. We have functioning products, paying customers and demand that is now expanding towards programmes involving thousands of terminals."

“Golbriak already has functioning technology, paying customers and clear demand from operators planning the next generation of satellite networks. Years of specialised engineering have created a significant technological and commercial lead. This investment accelerates the company’s ability to manufacture at the scale its customers will require,” said Jan Borgstädt, Founding Partner at Join Capital.

Golbriak Space is in advanced talks for several programmes that could involve thousands of systems. The company expects to begin customer-funded deployments across multiple commercial space projects from 2027, helping it expand its operations.

The company is also preparing additional ARES systems for use in airborne applications, expanding the potential use of its technology beyond space-based projects.
