SUMMARY
- The Regensburg-based digital health startup brainjo has raised €2 million in seed funding, led by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), along with support from strategic partners and angel investors, including Andreas Weinhut and better ventures.
Mental health systems today face major challenges like limited therapy availability, long waiting times, and restricted access to care. Brainjo is working to solve this by using Virtual Reality (VR) as an add-on to psychotherapy, making treatment more engaging and accessible.
The company builds Digital Health Applications (DiGA) that doctors and therapists can prescribe, with costs covered by health insurance.
Instead of replacing traditional therapy, brainjo’s VR solutions support and enhance existing treatments, allowing patients to continue therapy from home in a more personalized way helping close important gaps in mental healthcare.

The mission of brainjo is to develop evidence-based, immersive therapy solutions that support and expand traditional treatment methods, making mental healthcare more accessible and scalable.
The newly raised funding will be used to achieve its next major milestone conducting a clinical study and securing regulatory approval for its first VR-based Digital Health Application (DiGA).
This initial product is focused on treating children with ADHD and is being developed in partnership with MEDICE - The Health Family. If everything goes as planned the company is aiming for market approval by 2028, marking an important step toward integrating VR into mainstream mental healthcare.
Markus Wensauer, co-founder and CEO of brainjo, commented: With a strong network of business angels, MEDICE – The Health Family as a strategic partner, and HTGF as a leading European seed investor, we are ideally positioned to bring our solutions into healthcare and establish multimodal therapy offerings for patients.
