Gaius Capital Closes First Fund at €50M, Secures €56M Total to Back Business Succession in DACH

Gaius Capital, a Berlin-based private equity firm, has raised €50 million for its first fund, Gaius Nachfolgekapital I. The firm focuses on helping small and medium-sized businesses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH) manage ownership transitions when their owners plan to retire or step away.

SUMMARY

  • Gaius Capital closed its first fund at €50 million, with total capital reaching €56 million, including co-investments.
  • The Berlin-based firm invests in profitable small businesses and supports ownership transitions.
  • Gaius Capital was founded in 2025 by Jan Mickel, Joscha Radeck, and Dr. Lukas Klipper.

The fund was oversubscribed and reached its maximum fundraising target. Gaius Capital also raised an additional €6 million through a co-investment vehicle, bringing its total capital to €56 million.

The final close was completed just four months after the fund’s first close in June, when it had raised €40 million.

“We are very grateful to our investors for their trust and support throughout this journey. Reaching the final close at our hard cap, with significant demand from an experienced institutional investor base, is a strong endorsement of our strategy and the opportunity we see in Mittelstand succession,” said Jan Mickel, Founding Partner, Gaius Capital.

Gaius Capital was founded in Berlin in 2025 by Mickel, Joscha Radeck, and Dr. Lukas Klipper. The firm invests in small businesses and follows a buy-and-build strategy to help them grow over time.

The company works with businesses owned by founders and families, helping them find solutions when the owners want to retire or hand over control of their companies.

Gaius Capital mainly looks to acquire majority stakes in profitable service businesses in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, with a focus on smaller companies. It aims to support these businesses and help them grow under new ownership.

Since its first funding close, Gaius Capital has started putting its investment strategy into action. Its first platform, Praevidentia Group, focuses on Germany’s insurance brokerage sector.

The firm has also launched its second platform, Alpiora Group, which focuses on insurance advisory and brokerage services in Switzerland.
