Forsee Power and Wabtec Collaborate to Equip Locomotives

Forsee Power, a specialist in smart battery systems for sustainable mobility, has announced a collaboration with Wabtec, a global provider of equipment, systems, digital solutions, and services for the freight and transit rail industries.

Under the partnership, Wabtec will integrate Forsee Power’s advanced battery systems into its battery-electric locomotive platforms.

The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration on integrating Forsee Power’s PULSE PLUS RAIL battery systems into Wabtec’s locomotive platforms. The goal is to improve performance, increase reliability, and reduce overall ownership costs.

Forsee Power brings extensive experience in battery technology, rail focused research and development, global aftersales support and manufacturing capabilities in Ohio, helping meet Buy America requirements.

Wabtec is a leading manufacturer of freight locomotives and is focused on improving the safety, reliability and cost efficiency of rail transportation through innovation and collaboration. In 2021, the company introduced the worlds first battery electric freight locomotive, marking an important step forward in the electrification of rail freight.

Forsee Power’s PULSE PLUS RAIL battery system is built using Toshiba’s latest-generation LTO battery cells. It offers a long lifespan of up to 20 years, high power output, and supports voltages of up to 1500 VDC. The battery system is designed for locomotive applications and can also support fast-charging operations.
