Eyedentity Raises €1.3 Mn to Scale AI Platform for Eye Disease Detection

MedTech startup Eyedentity has raised €1.3 million (SEK 15 million) in its first investment round. The round was oversubscribed, meaning more investors wanted to invest than the company expected. Norrsken Launcher led the round, with support from Karolinska Institutet Innovation and several angel investors.

SUMMARY

  • Eyedentity raised €1.3 million in its first funding round.
  • The round was led by Norrsken Launcher, with support from Karolinska Institutet Innovation and angel investors.
  • The funding will support regulatory approval, product development and team expansion.

Eyedentity will use the new funding to work toward regulatory approval, improve its products and expand its AI-powered eye diagnostics platform. The company plans to bring its technology to opticians, eye clinics and hospitals.

Gustav Stålhammar, co-founder and CSO of Eyedentity, says: “A huge number of images are already taken at opticians, and there is a trend that opticians in particular are getting an increasingly large group of patients, for example people seeking help for vision problems, dry eyes or other problems.”

Anna Fredrixon, Partner at Norrsken Launcher, adds: “This is a clear example of technology that can save lives but, unlike other AI companies, does not send more patients to an already overburdened healthcare system. This is a win-win. And what’s more, no new infrastructure is needed. It’s brilliant, and ready to roll out now.”

Mats Holmström, CEO and co-founder of Eyedentity, says: “One of the things we really value about being part of the KI Incubator is that the support goes beyond advice. It also creates opportunities to meet people who can genuinely make a difference to the company. We first connected with Norrsken when we pitched at Karolinska Institutet Innovation InvestorDay, and it is great to see how that opportunity developed into an investment.”

Mats says: “It’s about finding clinical partners, building a product for opticians, eye clinics and hospitals, starting new commercial collaborations with medical record systems to make it as smooth as possible – the goal is zero clicks for the optician. Then we want to build a product for other eye diseases and beyond that, take over Europe and the US.”

Founded in 2025, Eyedentity is developing AI technology to help doctors and eye-care professionals detect serious eye diseases.

The technology analyses fundus images, which are pictures of the back of the eye taken during routine eye check-ups. It uses these existing images to help identify signs of serious eye conditions.

Eyedentity will use the new funding to work toward full regulatory approval for its first product. The company will also improve the product and add more diagnostic features.

The startup plans to hire more employees as it prepares to bring its technology to a wider market. The funding will help support its plans for commercial growth.

Eyedentity currently focuses on uveal melanoma, but it plans to use its AI platform to detect other eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. In the long term, the company wants to build an AI diagnostics platform that can help opticians, eye clinics and hospitals detect multiple eye conditions.
