SUMMARY
- Emidat, a top provider of environmental data solutions for the construction industry, has secured €4 million in seed funding.
- Emidat focuses on tracking and reducing the environmental impact of construction materials.
This funding will help Emidat assist the construction industry in reducing its environmental impact, starting with a new way to label every building material.
As the EU introduces new standards for building product declarations next month, Emidat is creating an operating system for environmental data in construction.
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are labels that show the environmental impact of materials at every stage of their life cycle, from production to recycling. These labels help architects, project developers, and contractors make informed choices about materials for their projects.

The construction sector accounts for 39% of global greenhouse gas emissions, with much of this coming from embodied carbon, which includes emissions from making, transporting, and disposing of building materials.
Currently, creating EPDs is expensive and time-consuming, and the construction industry has been slow to adopt digital solutions. The European market for EPDs could be worth at least €5 billion a year, as manufacturers will need to produce many more EPDs than currently exist.
Lisa Oberaigner, CEO and co-founder of Emidat, said, “Buildings are central to our lives and economies. While we are making progress in reducing emissions from energy construction still has a significant impact on the planet. With 75% of the buildings we will use in 2050 yet to be built, there is a major opportunity to lessen this sector's impact. By providing clear and accessible environmental data, we can help make the industry more sustainable.”
Founded in Munich in 2023 by Lisa Oberaigner and Florian Fesch, Emidat quickly gained major clients, including some of the world’s largest concrete manufacturers.
The company is collaborating with leading building material manufacturers in Europe, helping them cut the cost and time needed to create EPDs by over 70% through an AI-powered platform. The investment from General Catalyst will allow Emidat to expand its platform, speed up product development, and grow its team.
