Birdsview Raises €3.7 Million to Expand AI-Powered Concrete Inspection Technology

Bergen-based startup Birdsview has raised €3.7 million in new funding. The company develops technology that helps inspect concrete structures and protect important infrastructure.

Birdsview’s technology helps companies check the condition of concrete infrastructure more efficiently. Its solutions are designed to support the maintenance and preservation of buildings and other structures.

The funding round was backed by Sarsia, Butterfly Ventures, Proptechfonden, Kiilto Ventures, Nordic Makers, and Momentum.

Several existing investors also took part in the round. They include Eviny Ventures, Farvatn Venture, Erik Bakstad of Ardoq, serial founder Gunnar Hvammen, and Herman Flinder, founder of Norse Partners. Birdsview plans to use the funding to expand its commercial business, industrial operations, and international presence.

“This funding round is an important milestone for Birdsview. With €3.7 million (NOK 40.5 million) secured, and a Nordic investor consortium that understands both our technology and our market, we now have the resources to scale commercially and industrially across multiple countries. The fact that customers in eight countries have already chosen Birdsview Concrete just weeks after launch shows that we are solving a real problem for the industry,” said Olav Skogen, CEO, Birdsview.

Founded in 2017 by Skogen and Simen Husøy in Trondheim, Birdsview describes its technology as an “MRI for concrete” because it allows companies to see inside concrete structures without damaging them. This helps teams inspect infrastructure more safely and efficiently.

The company combines sensors and its own software algorithms to collect and analyse data. The system turns this information into detailed 3D images of concrete structures, without the need to drill holes or break the concrete.

This technology can make it easier to maintain and protect existing concrete structures. It can reduce inspection risks and costs, improve efficiency, and have a lower environmental impact.

Birdsview uses Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), which sends radar signals into concrete to detect and create images of objects and structures inside it. While GPR is a useful technology, analysing its data can traditionally be difficult.

Raw GPR data often requires experts with knowledge of radar analysis and signal interpretation. Birdsview’s algorithms automate much of this process, making it faster and easier for users to understand the data and create clear images without needing specialist expertise.
