Amsterdam’s AKA Foods Secures €14.8M To Launch AI-powered Food Innovation Platform

Amsterdam-based foodtech startup AKA Foods, which is reshaping how new food products are developed, has raised $17.2M (€14.8M) in a Seed funding round led by AI researchers and entrepreneurs Alex and Michael Bronstein.

With the new funding, AKA Foods has launched AKA Studio, a platform that helps food businesses design, refine, and launch new products faster and more efficiently.

Professor Alex Bronstein, Chief Scientist at AKA Foods, Head of the Centre for Intelligent Systems at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and a Professor at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, says, “AKA Foods is essentially bringing to market a new type of a grammar; a language for food, creating AI agents that are capable of connecting to different external data sources and then making recommendations on how to improve the recipe. This is something that a generic AI model like ChatGPT will never be able to achieve.”

Professor Bronstein now serves as both Chief Scientist and investor, taking a leading role in shaping AKA Foods’ scientific direction and guiding its strategic growth.

David Sack, founder and CEO of AKA Foods, adds, “The global food industry holds enormous amounts of valuable knowledge, but struggles to use it effectively. AKA Studio gives companies the ability to capture, organise and apply that knowledge securely. This investment allows us to expand deployment to enterprise clients worldwide and continue advancing the science behind how food is created.”

AKA Studio integrates research, formulation, and product development into a single structured platform. It consolidates internal knowledge and R&D data, linking them with sensory measurements of texture, aroma and taste. AI tools then assist in formulation and continuous optimisation, accelerating the creation of high-quality food products.

For R&D teams, AKA Studio accelerates development by integrating past experiments, current trials, ingredient data, sensory reports and regulatory records into a single connected system. For business leaders, it transforms internal knowledge into trackable innovation assets that enhance output and financial performance. Investors see it as a technical approach linking AI with food science and sensory evaluation.

The company emphasizes that formulation remains a hands-on scientific process. AKA Studio speeds decision-making by connecting digital records with sensory data, helping organizations refine product formulas and release items with improved nutritional and environmental profiles. It also supports reformulation for clean-label goals, reduced sugar or fat, and supply-chain requirements.

Data protection is a core part of the platform. AKA Studio operates as a SaaS system, providing each client with a private data environment. Organizations with higher security needs can run the system on-premise in isolated networks under the same protection rules. Client data is never pooled, shared, or used to train models, and ownership remains entirely with the client.

The company also notes that the sensory-AI framework behind AKA Studio could support future applications in flavor, fragrance, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical development, where sensory analysis and controlled formulation are essential to product design and verification.
