SUMMARY
- Voltrac announced a €7 million seed funding round, led by Extantia and joined by FoodLabs, Antler, PUSH, and Prototype Capital.
Following its €2 million pre-seed earlier this year, the new funding will allow Voltrac to scale production to 100 units annually by 2026.
Voltrac was founded in 2024 by Thomas Hubregtsen and Francisco Infante Aguirre to tackle labor shortages in agriculture and frontline logistics. Combining Hubregtsen’s software and AI expertise from Google X, BMW Research, and Extropic with Aguirre’s hardware experience from Volocopter and Destinus, the team brings AI into the physical world through their unmanned ground vehicle, ‘Thor’.
Labour shortage on agricultural land is an issue that Francisco experienced first hand. He comments, “My grandfather started a company selling tractor implements in over 25 countries, and my family farmed the land. When there was nobody left to work the fields, we had to sell that land. We built Thor so other families won’t have to make that choice.”

In less than a year, Voltrac designed, built, and tested Thor across vineyards, olive groves, and citrus fields. Tele-operated with autonomous capabilities, a single operator can manage multiple vehicles simultaneously. Thor works with existing farm implements plows, seed drills, atomizers automating them and reducing capital expenditures.

Unlike legacy vehicles retrofitted for autonomy and electrification Voltrac engineered Thor from the ground up for modern mobility. The platform features 70% fewer components, triple the battery capacity of competitors, and fully swappable batteries, setting a new standard for efficiency and versatility in unmanned ground vehicles.
They are ramping up production to 100 units a year from their Valencia-based facilities, at which they will reach a competitive price point. “Voltrac has cracked what most hardware startups struggle with: cost. They’re not asking farmers or defence operators to pay a green premium – they’re already at price parity with diesel platforms and on track to undercut them.” said Yair Reem, Partner at Extantia.
The Thor platform, capable of autonomously hauling 4 tonnes of cargo over rugged terrain, is also well-suited for frontline logistics a role responsible for over half of casualties in Ukraine. The team visited Ukraine to consult with several unmanned units and is now preparing for on-site trials.
“Voltrac’s Thor represents a generational leap. It outpaces anything coming from legacy players like John Deere and stands toe-to-toe with the most advanced Chinese platforms such as the Honghu T70.” says Andreas Klinger of Prototype Capital, “This is the kind of technology Europe needs to secure both its food systems and its front lines.”
