SUMMARY
- Denmark-based cybersecurity startup Uniqkey has raises €5.35 million in a new investment.
- Europe's top password and access manager is Uniqkey. It gives businesses more control over their cloud infrastructure, access security, and personnel management while streamlining employee security.
With this new funding, Uniqkey will be able to further its goal of protecting European businesses, especially small and medium-sized ones (SMEs), from the growing risks of data theft and cyberattacks.
Strong cybersecurity measures are more important than ever in a world where digital threats are growing at an alarming rate. Global cybercrime costs are predicted to soar from $3 trillion in 2015 to an astounding $9.5 trillion by 2024.
European businesses are especially susceptible; in 2023, cyberattacks cost German corporations alone €205.9 billion. The risks are similar for the European Union as a whole, which lost €268 billion to cybercrime in 2018.

Growing geopolitical tensions—most notably those involving China, the US, Russia, and Ukraine—have increased the pressure on the EU to improve its cybersecurity. Europe's digital sovereignty is under threat due to years of underinvestment in its digital infrastructure, which has made the continent highly dependent on foreign technologies. These days, startups like Uniqkey are essential to lowering this reliance and safeguarding Europe's digital future.
Uniqkey’s CEO and Founder, Hakan Yagci, emphasizes the importance of the company’s approach: “Today, everybody’s got a mobile phone. Mobile phones have become an essential way we access our everyday life online. That is exactly why we’ve made the mobile phone central to Uniqkey’s security solution, and a big part of why we’re seeing great demand for our solution. In the same fashion as mobile apps have changed the way we send money instantly or access our bank accounts, Uniqkey will change the way we access systems internally within the company – easy, fast, and secure.”
Encompassing 24.3 million SMEs—which account for 99.8% of all businesses in the region—are vital to the European economy. But the entire economy is in jeopardy since more than 12 million of these enterprises do not have a cybersecurity plan. Similar to how GDPR has changed data privacy practices, the upcoming NIS2 and DORA legislation will soon hold company directors and boards personally liable for their cybersecurity procedures.
The CMO of Uniqkey, Hellstrøm-Melander, stated: "This investment is about protecting Europe's digital future for Uniqkey, not only about growing their business. In the upcoming years, this new funding will allow us scale our technology to thousands of organizations across Europe, as Simon Cederstråhle says. Our primary focus is on protecting SMEs, and we want to have a significant impact on Europe's developing cyberspace.
