SUMMARY
- Gen Phoenix, a recycled leather fibre maker from Peterborough, UK, has raised $15 million in funding. The round was led by Material Impact, with support from Tapestry.
Gen Phoenix plans to use the $15M funding to expand into new product categories and global markets, scale up production at its UK facility (which can produce over 60 million square feet annually), and fast-track R&D to launch its fully circular leather made from post-consumer and end-of-life waste.
Led by CEO John Kennedy, the company uses a circular process that transforms leather offcuts headed for landfill into high-quality recycled leather.

Its patented technology works with different types of waste, making large-scale material circularity possible. Today, Gen Phoenix’s materials are already being used in transport seating, fashion accessories, footwear, and the automotive sector.
“This investment reflects our belief in the power of innovation to drive both purpose and profit. Gen Phoenix’s platform enables circularity at scale—delivering high-quality materials that meet the style, performance, and impact expectations of today’s consumer,” said Scott Roe, Tapestry Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer.
“As global leader in quality leather goods, we see significant opportunity to be a catalyst of next-generation materials that are consistent with our heritage of craftsmanship. This partnership reinforces our commitment to leading the fashion industry in sustainable innovation and ensuring a resilient, future-ready supply chain.”
Luxury brands are now turning to what Gen Phoenix calls "luxcycling" — using new materials and special manufacturing methods to make luxury fashion and accessories last longer without losing their quality or heritage. Gen Phoenix’s growing partnership with Tapestry highlights how both companies are leading the shift toward more sustainable leather and helping the entire industry move toward eco-friendly luxury.
“This expanded partnership marks a major milestone—not just for Gen Phoenix, but for the future of sustainable materials,” said John Kennedy, CEO of Gen Phoenix. “Together with Tapestry, we’re proving that circular innovation can meet the demands of global brands without compromise. It’s a powerful example of what happens when you combine material innovation, leather heritage, shared values, and a commitment to scale.”
