SUMMARY
- Stockholm-based Polar has raised €8.6 million in Seed funding to grow its remote-first team across Europe and boost its efforts in growth, developer relations, and strategic partnerships within the payments space.
The round was led by Accel, with support from Abstract, Mischief, and several angel investors including Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Paul Copplestone (Supabase), Tobi Lütke & Harley Finkelstein (Shopify), Michael Grinich (WorkOS), Anton Osika (Lovable), Thomas Paul Mann (Raycast), Jorn van Dijk & Koen Bok (Framer), Zeno Rocha (Resend), Jared Palmer (Vercel), Steven Tey (Dub), and Sébastien & Alexandre Chopin (Nuxt).
Birk Jernström, Founder and CEO of Polar, shared the announcement with the statement: “It’s never been easier to build, ship & scale software. But, it has never been harder to monetise software. It’s a bottleneck for the future. We’re building the open-source monetization platform to empower future one-developer unicorns.”
Founded in 2022, Polar is an open-source monetisation platform designed for digital products and SaaS businesses. Since launching version 1.0 in September 2024, the platform has gained rapid traction—thousands of developers are now using it to grow their revenue, with average month-over-month growth of over 120% in the last six months.

Polar credits much of its progress to its active community. With over 17,000 signups, 16,000+ followers on X, 5,300 GitHub stars, and 1,500 members on Discord, developers are constantly contributing feedback, features, and pull requests that help shape the platform.
The company believes that while building and scaling software has become easier—thanks to open-source tools, AI, and platforms like Vercel and Supabase—monetisation is still a major hurdle.
As the industry shifts from one-time purchases to SaaS, and now to usage-based and agentic pricing, Polar sees monetisation as the next big bottleneck.
To address this, Polar is building a developer-first monetisation stack tailored for solo builders and early-stage startups. It combines billing, product analytics, and CRM in one platform.
Key features include automated usage-based billing (for tools like OpenAI, Vercel AI SDK, S3, etc.), easy integrations with just four lines of code, complete handling of global tax, compliance, and fraud protection, and an open-source foundation that encourages community collaboration.
