SUMMARY

  • Stema, a career copilot platform for engineers, secures €1.6 million in funding from United Ventures.
  • For thousands of Italian engineers, Stema serves as their co-pilot throughout life.

Through its UV III and UV III Lombardia funds—the latter supported by the local "Lombardia Venture" program for high-potential digital startups—United Ventures made an investment in Stema. In the round, Octopus Ventures, Club degli Investitori, and Eden Ventures were also involved.

A B2B solution to automate STEM recruitment is being developed by Stema. This investment comes at a time when the company is experiencing rapid expansion. In only a few months, it has established a thriving community of competent engineers in Italy, drawing in over 300 new users every day and landing contracts with 15 of the largest technical companies in the nation.

The additional funds will be utilised to grow the company's workforce, strengthen its market position in Italy, advance the development of its technological platform, and get ready to enter the German market.

The global economic competitiveness is a backdrop for the demand for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) workers. An enormous amount of STEM skills are needed in today's changing industrial landscape, which creates demand for both fresh graduates and—more importantly—the best possible distribution of current professionals within the labour market. Companies find it challenging to attract and hire the engineers they need due to geographic talent concentrations and frequently antiquated recruiting methods.

For companies to match talent with opportunity, new infrastructure is required. By emphasising career paths above specific job postings, Stema cultivates a strong professional network and attracts a sizable STEM talent pool to its platform.

AI helps engineers find opportunities within businesses and navigate the employment market. In a similar vein, businesses are able to identify the engineers most suitable for every position, guaranteeing a better match between skill and role. This is essential for encouraging innovation and creativity at work.

The founding team of Stema brings a wealth of knowledge from other industries together with complementing skill sets. The team consists of CTO Matteo Gambera, an automation engineer; CEO Davide Bodini, a human resources specialist; and serial entrepreneur Vito Lomele, who has founded inventive and profitable businesses like Fiscozen and Jobrapido.

Vito Lomele, Co-founder of Stema said, “For the first time in recruiting, new AI-powered tools allow us to offer professionals the same level of personalized attention and guidance previously reserved for executives, who are used to working directly with headhunters. By empowering millions of European professionals to pursue their career aspirations more effectively, Stema will drive innovation within businesses and ultimately strengthen our continent’s competitiveness,”.

Paolo Gesess, Co-founder and managing partner of United Ventures said, “The rise of artificial intelligence and its integration into businesses is creating fertile ground for innovation in HR, Coupled with this is the strong demand for STEM professionals, who are difficult to attract and place using traditional approaches. This presents a clear market opportunity: to tap into this talent pool and innovate the model to better match supply and demand. Stema, led by an exceptional team, stands out as one of the few companies with a vertical focus on STEM profiles and a community-based approach. It has all the ingredients to build a significant competitive advantage in the HR tech sector.”
