SUMMARY
- SkyNRG, a company in Amsterdam focused on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), has raised €250 million from APG, which manages pensions for 4.6 million people in the Netherlands on behalf of ABP, the country’s largest pension fund.
APG provides services such as consulting, asset management, pension administration, communication, and employer support. As of December 2024, it manages around €616 billion in pension assets.
Arjan Reinders, Head of Infrastructure Europe at APG, says, “SkyNRG is a frontrunner in the SAF market, demonstrating an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong commercial focus. SkyNRG represents the first investment in the SAF sector on behalf of our client, which is closely aligned with our ambition to create impact by investing at the forefront in energy transition assets that meet our investment criteria. We look forward to collaborating with the SkyNRG management team as they expand their business operations and further contribute to the global efforts in reducing carbon emissions within the aviation sector.”
As part of a larger €300M funding round, this investment will help SkyNRG build SAF production plants in Delfzijl (Netherlands), Sweden (Project SkyKraft), and the U.S. (Project Wigeon).

It will also support the growth of SkyNRG’s platform, which includes project development, R&D, advisory services, and innovative programs for customers.
Maarten van Dijk – CEO and Co-founder of SkyNRG says, “APG joining SkyNRG is a major step forward for SkyNRG, both in terms of our growth plans and ambition to become a SAF producer. The investment from APG, along with MAM’s existing equity commitment, will not only support SkyNRG as a company but also demonstrate that the SAF market is ready for facilities dedicated solely to the production of SAF. By bringing together actors from across the industry, including OEMs, technology providers, corporates, and airlines, we are helping pave the way for global Sustainable Aviation Fuel adoption.”
Since 2010, SkyNRG has been working to boost SAF demand and production to support the aviation industry's goal of reaching net zero by 2050. The company has supplied SAF to over 130 customers worldwide and is building facilities to replace fossil jet fuel with sustainable options.
SkyNRG is a certified B Corp committed to producing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in a responsible and eco-friendly way.
An independent Sustainability Board guides the company on feedstock choices and other sustainability matters. SkyNRG follows key international standards, including RSB EU RED, CORSIA, and Book & Claim.
Kate Vidgen, Chair of the Board of SkyNRG and Operating Partner at MAM, says, “The aviation industry continues to be a one of the hardest to abate sectors, and meeting the demand for sustainable aviation fuel continues to be a key challenge. Macquarie has been an investor in SkyNRG since 2023, during which time SkyNRG has continued to be a frontrunner in its approach to tackling this globally important problem. We are delighted to welcome this additional investment from APG and to work alongside them and the SkyNRG management team to grow the business and support the decarbonisation of the industry together.”
