Brussels-based climate tech startup Sirona Technologies secure nearly €1M in funding to address the goal of removing CO2 from the air, tackle difficult emissions.
To start Sirona Technologies, former Tesla engineer Thoralf Gutierrez teamed up with specialists studying carbon capture at CERN. With a strong emphasis on rapid product iteration and tight mission focus, Sirona is inspired by Tesla’s methods and aims to establish new benchmarks in the Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology space.
A prestigious group of investors and businesspeople, including seasoned employees from SpaceX and Tesla, have backed the venture.
The startup got backing from a number of well-known individuals and companies, including XAnge, AFI Ventures, VOYAGERS Climate-Tech Fund (headed by David Rowan, founding editor of Wired UK), Adrien Roose of Cowboy, Benoit Deper of Aerospacelab, Thibaud Elziere of eFounders, and Renaud Visage, co-founder of Eventbrite.

Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology is said to have advanced quickly, according to Sirona Technologies. The business has created a third-generation prototype that gathers 100 times more CO2 than the first one in just six months.
Thoralf Gutierrez, CEO and co-founder of Sirona Technologies says, “I am incredibly excited to unveil Sirona Technologies to the world. Climate change is the most important problem of our era. It demands that we make bold and ambitious bets. My experience at Tesla showed me what you can do when you assemble a team of exceptional, mission-driven engineers. That’s exactly what we’re doing, and it will be crucial to scaling our impact on climate change as quickly as possible.”
Co-founder Gauthier Limpens says, “Direct Air Capture is an essential piece in the intricate puzzle of combating climate change. During my tenure in the field, I’ve come to realise the urgent need to scale up this technology right now, for it to be available tomorrow. It’s not a question of choosing one solution over another as they will all be needed; rather, it’s about integrating DAC into our broader strategy to effectively and rapidly reduce atmospheric CO2 levels in a post-fossil-energy era. At Sirona Technologies, we are committed to advancing this technology to make a meaningful impact in our collective fight against climate change.”
About Sirona Technologies
Sirona Technologies is a climate technology startup that was established in 2023 and is focused on CO2 removal using Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology. The Brussels-based business, which places a strong emphasis on cost-effectiveness, efficiency, and scalability, says it is leading the region’s developing climate tech sector.
Its strategy involves developing devices utilising current technology in order to support the overall objective of achieving net-zero emissions.
