SUMMARY

  • Berlin-based VC firm Revent, which backs founders tackling big global challenges, has launched its second fund — a €100 million fund to support early-stage European startups focused on social and environmental impact.
  • Revent was founded in 2021 by Otto Birnbaum and Dr. Lauren Lentz, based on the belief that ambitious founders want to build companies that create real social impact—and in doing so, become highly valuable.

The fund is supported by Otto Group, Goldbeck, Wepa, and Arendt Oetker, with the European Investment Fund increasing its backing as well.

Lauren Lentz, Founding Partner at Revent said, “We built Revent for Founders who don’t just want to build a big company, but also want to build an important company – that is, a company that brings us a big step forward toward a better future. We look for exceptional people with this ‘dual ambition’ to do something big AND important, in areas such as the energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, healthcare, and reskilling, amongst others,”.

After the success of its first fund, Revent is continuing to invest in companies that not only deliver strong financial returns but also help create a healthier, fairer, and more resilient future.

With Fund II, Revent is introducing a new tool called the Real Value Framework (RVF). This helps them measure the long-term positive impact a startup can have on people or the planet, and use that insight to guide their investment decisions.

Otto Birnbaum, Founding Partner at Revent said, “With the Real Value Framework we can estimate the economic value a startup can generate for society. We look for companies that can generate more than €100 million per year of value for society and grow to more than €100 million in revenues within 6 to 8 years. These companies will actually generate exceptional financial returns for our investors,”.
