Reactive Technologies Gets €19 Mn EIB Funding for Grid Stability Technology

The company has developed GridVerix, a platform that provides real-time information about electricity grid stability. It is designed to help reduce the risk of power outages and lower the cost of operating power grids.

GridVerix tracks important indicators such as inertia, which is the stored energy in power generators that helps the grid handle sudden disruptions. The platform also monitors voltage strength and stability across different parts of the grid, helping operators manage clean energy more effectively.

“EIB support comes at a critical moment. The rapid growth of renewable energy and large power consumers such as data centres are making Europe’s grids more complex to manage. By providing real-time measurements of grid stability, GridVerix can help operators keep the system secure, operate more efficiently and reduce costs for consumers,” said Reactive Technologies CEO Marc Borrett.

Reactive Technologies gives grid operators a much clearer picture of what is happening across their networks in real time. Our financing will help bring this European technology to more markets, reduce the risk of power outages and support the secure integration of more clean power,” said EIB Vice-President Karl Nehammer.

Reactive Technologies was founded in 2010 by Dr. Heikki Huomo and Borrett. The UK-based company develops Grid-Enhancing Technologies (GETs) to help solve challenges linked to the energy transition, growing electricity use, and increasing demand from large power users.

As more wind and solar power is added to Europe’s electricity grids, keeping the system stable becomes more important. Reactive Technologies says its GridVerix platform can help grid operators identify potential problems and manage the system more effectively.

GridVerix can also support the connection of large electricity users, such as data centres, while helping grids handle more renewable energy. The platform may also reduce renewable energy curtailment, which happens when operators intentionally reduce renewable power generation, helping lower related costs for consumers.
